The Drug King – A spoof Korean Drama

“The Drug King” is packed with fascinating concepts and issues, however, it does not put them into a format that entices viewers. The slow pace and the lack of real-world storytelling are two of the problems with this film. This is why some scenes can be incredibly long and some of the characters are not completely convincing. “The Drug King” is still a fun film that has a lot of well-constructed characters.

The film “The Drug Kings”, directed by David Fincher, follows the main character as he rises to become regional leader of a doo-sam kingdom. Sam, a wise and ambitious man, sees the negative effects of drugs on his family, girlfriend and himself as he works for Doo Sam. Sam began an underground railroad to protect his family. He met many humorous and interesting characters on the route.

With the exception of one short moment in which Sam disappears towards the distance at the endof the film, the film follows Sam’s adventures almost exclusively from the perspective of his girlfriend, Holly. Sam finds himself in love with her instantly and spends the majority of the movie trying convince Holly to leave Doo-Sam to join the Doo-Sam Empire. She eventually leaves however, she returns to Doo-Sam as an agent loyal to the final part of the movie. Through the film, she pleads with Sam for more access to and accurate information regarding the industry of doo-sam. She eventually agrees to help Sam locate Korean-Controlled marijuana shipments that are being held by the Yakuza.


The film’s uniqueness comes from the way the characters interact with each other. Most of the time, the relationships between the different characters are depicted with hilarious humor. The music is also fantastic. The majority of the songs, and especially ones with Korean lyrics, deal with the themes of love, tragedy, freedom and marijuana. Many songs are about the drug kingpin Doo SAM, and the song Kang-ho also has the right to make rhymes about Kim Tae Hee.

Min-sik (a minor character) escapes from the drug factory in a sequence that is less amusing. When Min-sik realizes what he’s done, he apologizes to Yomi and tells him he will regret his action. Yomi warns him not to come to the factory again, and Min-sik decides to flee the location. When he finally leaves the factory, Min-sik sees numerous Yomi employees waiting outside. When the time comes for him to arrive, Yomi asks him where he learned how to be a good friend.

The humor of this film is more about comedy, not the historical or drug trade aspects of Korean history. The two Korean characters have hilarious misunderstandings throughout the movie. Min-sik attempts to escape Yomi in order to avoid working there, but Yomi’s friend decides that he will help him by getting the information about drugs out. They also have numerous conflicting with each other. Other minor characters also have hilarious conflicts with the main characters, such as the Chinese girl who is attempting to give Lee Doo SAM a sample of her blood so that he can make an elixir with a special ingredient which will make him immune to drugs.

This film is not for the person who is looking for a deep history lesson. It’s an spoof comedy that is amusing and has a lot of entertaining moments, like the transformation of the “drug lord” into a beautiful blonde woman. There are some good songs in the movie, including the one where Yomi injects Lee Doo San with the blue vein. This film is also an excellent example of the talents of Oh Sung-gi, a south Korean actor. The music is often instrumental. Overall this is a great and entertaining film that every cinephile should check out.

The Drug King is a excellent film that focuses on the unique culture of its locale.
